The Polynomials


 

The purpose of this page is to indicate how the subject of polynomials andd their graphs could be presented taking advantage of Descartes.

Modify the parameter a, b and c to make the red graph coincide with the blue one.

Write the function whose graph appears in blue. The graph of the function you write appears in red. When you have found the correct function you will only see the red graph because it will overwrite the blue none.

 

With the previous example you can see that the graph of every second degree polynomial is a parabola with a vertical axis.

Study the possible forms the graph of a third degree polynomial may have. How many maxima and minima can it have?
