Polar Coordinates

Using the tool VARIABLES it is possible to define the polar coordinates r and teta by:

r = sqrt(x^2+y^2)
teta = asin(y/r)

and use these variables to define equations in polar coordinates, as the following example shows.

The example also illustrates the editable option of the text fields of EQUATIONS.  The configuration line of the equation has the statement editable=true, which tells the applet that the text field of the equation should be editable so that the user may change the equation. Thanks to this, the user can define other polar equations. The user is invited to write these equations:  r=a*cos(teta) and r=a*sin(teta) and any other he or she desires. After modifying the equation it is necessary to type <return> to redraw the graph.
