The cone is comparable to a pyramid with a lot of faces.
We know that the pyramid volume is one third of the volume of a prism with the same base and perpendicular height. Similarly, the cone volume is one third of the volume of a cylinder with the same base and perpendicular height.
The cone volume is one-third  of the base area multiplied by the perpendicular height.
V = (1/3) · π · r2 · h
