1. The addition of integers.

When adding, we join two values into one.
As we are used to work with natural numbers we are prone to expect the outcome to be a number larger than the addends, but this isn't the case with integers because it depends on the signs of the addends.

In Maths we must always look for the most simple solution. That which is unnecessary hinders us and, if possible, we have to eliminate it by simplifying the expression.
We only use the positive sign of a number when it is indispensable. Thus, when adding integers, we integrate the number signs with the addition sign, until you get something similar to a series of additions and subtractions.
