THE CIRCLE
Analysis

1. Circles and circumferences

If we join together all the points on a plane that are r distance away from a central point O we get a circle with centre O and radius r. A circle is also, geometrically speaking, where all the points on a curve are equidistant from a given fixed point, called the centre. A circle is also the figure enclosed by the circumference.

1.- If we increase the number of sides of a regular polygon the edge of the shape becomes closer and closer in appearance to the circumcircle around the shape. Gradually increase the number of sides of the polygon in the window and watch how eventually it is difficult to distinguish it from the circumcircle around the shape.

2.- The side of a triangle is longer than the radius of its circumcircle. When the number of sides is increased the length of the sides becomes shorter.

3.- Are the lengths of the side and the radius ever exactly the same length? In which polygon is this the case? Is it possible to draw this polygon just by using a compass?
