Percentages and indices

INTRODUCTION

In this unit we shall look at the area of percentages and see how to use them in different exercises. We shall also look at examples of how percentages are used in the world around us such as Value Added Tax (VAT), simple interest and the Retail Price Index (RPI).

AIMS

To know how to use percentages in everyday situations.
To know what VAT is an how to work it out.
To know how to work out the simple interest on a loan or investment.
To know what RPI is and how to work it out.
